OCEANSIDE PUBLIC LIBRARY CELEBRATES

2nd ANNUAL NATIONAL AUTHORS’ DAY, SAT., NOV. 7th, 2009

With over a hundred attendees at its first event titled, "So You Want to Be an Author!" Oceanside's Library feels its success demands a repeat performance. This year's theme goes "Beyond the Basics!" and is, again, free and open to the public in the Civic Center Library’s Community Room (330 N. Coast Hwy) on Sat., Nov.7, 9:30 am to 3:30 pm. As last year, the Day is co-chaired by Librarian Anna McElroy with PWSD, RLSD and NCAP member Elizabeth Yahn Williams.

This year's Featured Speakers are stellar with the renowned Richard Lederer, best-selling author of 30 books, including Anguished English, speaking on “Reinventing One’s Writing Career” (as he segues from linguistics to cats & dogs, teachers & seniors).

North County Authors & Poets will demonstrate non-fiction vs fiction writing with SDSU's "favorite instructor" Caitlin Victoria Featherstone who will speak on "New Notions in Non-Fiction" and "Pitfalls of Plotting." Her Mira Costa Extension Creative Writing Class celebrates the day with the release of their holiday chapbook.

Also featured are UCSD’s Dr. Edith Jonsson-Devillers who will enact a Power Point presentation on the lyrical value of translating with local poet Megan Webster.

Several local publishers, editors and manuscript writers will grace our information tables along with the Read Local, San Diego initiative whose writers will be available for discussion throughout the day, as will North County Authors and Poets, chaired by Mary Lenore Quigley.

As a special feature, Bob Lundy and the team of HITHER & YAHN will demonstrate “Elevator Pitches” with attending authors. OCEANSIDE - It was standing room only at Oceanside’s Public Library last Saturday as North County Authors & Poets (NCAP) and the OPL con-celebrated National Authors’ Day. Keynote speaker, Richard Lederer, entertained a packed audience with snippets from his diverse selection of books on language. Readings from local authors and presentations on literature and poetry by Caitlin Victoria Featherstone, Dr. Edith Jonsson and Megan Webster completed the day’s menu. Well-fed physically and emotionally attendees are anxious to return next year! Also participating this year were local publishers Printer’s Ink and Sunbelt Publications as well as manuscript editors Lois Winsen and Karla Olson (Read Local-San Diego).
